National Day of Prayer event at local church gathers community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In the 1950s, the National Day of Prayer was officially introduced in the United States.

Each year, it is recognized on the first Thursday of May as a time for reflection and spiritual unity. This year, people from across the county gathered at Fountain Square Church to participate in the event. Attendees from all backgrounds came together to pray, read scripture and fellowship with one another.

Roger Ryan, the area coordinator for the event, shared his thoughts on the day’s importance.

He stated, “It’s only Jesus who’s going to change hearts. We’ve got to talk to God about it.”

Ryan said that while the government plays a role, true change begins with faith.

He also reminded everyone that the National Day of Prayer can be observed anywhere, encouraging people to take a moment to pray, no matter where they are.
