National Boys and Girls Club week in Allen County
ALLEN COUNTY, KY.- It is National Boys and Girls Club week and Allen County-Scottsville is celebrating.
Director Patricia Hojna, of the Boys & Girls Club Allen County-Scottsville tells us, “They come in, they’re very happy to know what we’re going to do. They like to have some structure in their life. So I think what it means to them is they have something to look forward to every day. It wasn’t just fun. It’s fun and learning.”
Most kids who attend these programs need a place to go not only for safety, but to also give them a reason to get up. Gabriel Barber, the Youth of the year shares what he would normally be doing during the summer. Gabriel says, “To be honest, I’m probably sleeping, but I mean, this place gives people a place to go, especially for people that have parents with jobs. It’s just a great place to be, honestly. ”
Doing activities at the boys and girls club can also provide peace of mind for parents. Aria Wanta, the Junior youth of the year tells us why she goes to the Boys and Girls Club. Aria says, ” My mom always has to work. So does my dad. So we always just come here so we don’t have to sit at home by ourselves. And we can get some activities and get some things going since we’re not in school. So we can like, have some more knowledge while we’re not in school. So we just don’t sit at home and brain rot.
Gabriel says, “Everyone needs a place to go, and honestly, this is one of the places I choose to go because it’s where I feel safe and secure, It’s just something that everyone needs in life.”
