NAACP celebrates 100th year with annual gala
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The local chapter of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People is celebrating 100 years this year.
On Saturday night, the group held their annual Freedom Fund Gala.
The night included dinner, awards, scholarship announcements and dancing.
The group’s mission since it’s creation has been to fight for equality, justice, and fairness for all people. For NAACP President Ryan Dearbone, the event was a great opportunity to not only look back but also look to the future.
“We’re going to celebrate those 100 years, look back at the accomplishments of the NAACP and the work we’ve done as well as start charting the course for the next hundred years,” Dearbone said.
Proceeds from the night went to the organization’s education fund, which provides scholarships to local high school seniors pursuing higher education.
