Mothers take a stand against gun violence
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A group of mothers in Bowling Green are taking a stand against gun violence.
On Saturday, a local chapter of Moms Demand Action joined the nation’s Wear Orange Campaign to advocate for gun control.
At the event, one by one, members of the group and attendees from the community spoke about their personal experiences with gun violence.
Haley Rinehart organized the local chapter of Moms Demand Action in response to an incident in 2002 when her 4-year old son accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun.
Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower also spoke at the event, recalling his own experiences with gun violence while fighting in Afghanistan.
The group’s states that they are not anti-gun, just anti-gun violence.
Moms Demand Action in Bowling Green has received a city and county proclamation naming June as Gun Violence Awareness Month.
