More than 20 dogs surrendered in Hopkins County animal cruelty case

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. – One person has been arrested after what authorities say was a month-long investigation into animal cruelty.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the Hopkins County Humane Society found that multiple Alaskan Malamutes were being sold without vaccination and while living in deplorable conditions.
Authorities say the investigation revealed Nina Holm, 58, of Dawson Springs, Kentucky had 24 dogs in her possession.
Some of the animals lived in conditions that included a metal building during extreme heat with little ventilation or water and a floor covered in feces, authorities say. In a social media post, the Hopkins County Humane Society said all of the dogs are 30 to 40 pounds underweight.
Authorities also say they found five puppies within the residence covered in feces and locked in a small cage.
Holm voluntarily surrendered all 24 dogs and puppies to the Hopkins County Humane Society.
Holm is charged with 24 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals.
The investigation remains ongoing.
