Governor Andy Beshear said Sunday that he will quarantine after a member of his security detail, who drove with his family the day before, later tested positive for COVID-19.

Beshear said he and his family feel fine and show no coronavirus symptoms. The family will be tested regularly for the virus, his office said.

In a social media video posted Sunday, Beshear said he’s committed to “setting an example” by quarantining after receiving a call from a contact tracer to alert his family of the possible exposure.

The governor did continue with his daily covid updates Monday, announcing that last week the state saw its highest number of new cases since the start of the pandemic.

643 cases were announced Monday, bringing the statewide total to 80,930.

Three new deaths were also reported Monday, bringing the statewide total to 1,255.

13,615 have recovered.

According to the Barren River District Health Department, there have been 7,915 total cases in the surrounding counties combined since the start of the pandemic, 6,725 have recovered.

One new death was reported in Warren County on Monday. Allen county did not release any new numbers on Monday due to the holiday.
