Meyer Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

DALLAS – WKU Baseball outfielder Matthew Meyer has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday afternoon.

The recognition marks the Hilltoppers’ second C-USA Hitter of the Week honor this season, with Ty Batusich winning the award on March 7 after slashing .471/.500/.706 in four wins over (RV) Kentucky and Hartford.

Meyer led WKU at the plate during its series win against UAB over the weekend, where he posted a .545 batting average and 1.273 slugging percentage in three games, racking up six hits – including two doubles and two home runs – to go along with three runs and five RBI. Of the Hilltoppers’ 13 runs on the weekend, Meyer scored or knocked in eight of them.

For the season, Meyer is currently tied for third on the team in doubles (nine) while ranking fourth in runs (23), tying for fourth in home runs (four) and ranking fifth in both walks (13) and RBI (20).

Meyer and the Hilltoppers will be back in action on Tuesday, May 10 when they head to Clarksville, Tenn., to face Austin Peay at 6 p.m. CT.
