Metcalfe middle schooler receives statewide award, makes history

EDMONTON, Ky. – A Metcalfe County middle schooler received a statewide award Wednesday.
According to a release, 12-year-old 6th-grade student Tymber Garrett is being recognized as the Kentucky Association for Gifted Education’s Distinguished Student Award recipient.
Garrett is the first Metcalfe County student to receive the award over its 25-year history.
Garrett was nominated for her outstanding academic achievement, strong leadership skills, and tireless contributions to the community, according to the release.
“I am both excited and humbled to receive such a prestigious honor,” Tymber Garrett said. “I’ve always enjoyed being involved in my community and school and giving back whenever and wherever possible in Metcalfe County and beyond. I love having an idea that might bring some joy to others. We can all make a difference in the world with one act of kindness at a time. I am very thankful for this opportunity and everything my school, teachers, family, and friends have done to support me along the way.”
Garrett will receive a College Entity Account from the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT) and a Certificate of Excellence at the annual KAGE Conference in Lexington on Monday, Feb. 23.
