Metcalfe County Sheriff dies of cancer

EDMONTON, Ky.- Metcalfe County Sheriff Ricky Brooks died Saturday after battling cancer.

He was just 40 years old.

Prior to serving as Sheriff, Brooks was employed by Kentucky State Police and also served in the United States Army.

Brooks was elected Sheriff in November 2018 and replaced Rondal Shirley, who served for two decades.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Asbury-Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the VA Bone Marrow Transplant Section in Nashville.

Metcalfe County Judge Executive Harold stilts says Brooks lived a great life.

“He was always jolly, always had a good time with the folks. He was really a good person to be around. I know he’ll be surely missed by a lot of people,” Stilts said.
