Metcalfe County Board of Education approves property and vehicle taxes

EDMONTON, Ky.  – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, September 10, 2020.

On the agenda, board members approved the 2020-21 property and motor vehicle tax rates. The property tax rate was set at the compensating rate of 53.0 with .2 for exonerations, which brings the rate to 53.2 and actually lowers it one point from the previous year. The motor vehicle tax will remain the same for the fifth consecutive year at 56.6.

Also on the agenda, board members approved a contract to provide a hearing impairment specialist to Glasgow Independent Schools as needed during the 2020-21 school year.

Grant writer Torrie Osbon announced during the board meeting the district was awarded a $461,505 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The school safety grant will allow the district to partner with the Edmonton Police Department and Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office in a school violence prevention program. Metcalfe County was one of ten school districts in Kentucky and 160 across the country to be awarded the grant.

The board recognized Metcalfe County High School student Logan Phelps as the September Student of the Month. The MCHS cafeteria staff was recognized as Classified Employees of the Month, and MCHS guidance counselor Brandy Morgan was recognized as Certified Employee of the Month.
