Metcalfe Co. Outlasts Cumberland Co. in Battle of District 16 Teams

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A matchup of District 16 foes took place at Metcalfe County High School on Tuesday night as the Hornets (6-2, 0-1) hosted the Cumberland County Panthers (1-6, 0-3).

The two teams went back-and-forth through the first three quarters, with Metcalfe County clinging to a narrow 48-44 lead heading into the final frame.

The Hornets would pull away in the last eight minutes, though, and cruise to a 76-67 victory over the visiting Panthers.

With the win, Metcalfe County improves to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in District 16 play, while Cumberland County falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-4 in District play.

Panthers’ senior forward Hunter Perdue led all scorers with an eye-popping 37 points (16-20 FG) and 12 rebounds, while junior guard Peyton Dial paced the Hornets with 31 points on 9 of 16 from the field.

Junior Wyatt Blythe added 16 points of his own for Metcalfe County and Jax Allen chipped in 11 points for the victorious Hornets.

Metcalfe County travels to Clinton County to take on the Bulldogs this Thursday, January 28th at 7:30 p.m. CST, while Cumberland County returns home for a Thursday night matchup against Casey County at 6:30 p.m. CST.
