Metcalfe Co. Board of Education appoints new member, approves superintendent’s contract
EDMONTON, Ky. – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in a special session on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The meeting served as the board’s regular monthly meeting for April.
On the agenda, the board appointed Daniel Glass to fill the vacant seat in District 2, created on February 19, 2024, formerly held by Joey Shive. Glass is a 2007 Metcalfe County High School graduate employed by SCRTC. He says he’s looking forward to serving Metcalfe County students, teachers, families, and the community.
“I’m eager to work for our school district and be a voice of the communities I represent,” Glass said. “I will work wholeheartedly to ensure we are making the best possible decisions and moving in the right direction for the success of our students and district.” Glass’ appointment is effective until the November general election, after which the elected board member will continue the unexpired term through 2026.
Also on the agenda, the board approved anew three-year contract for Superintendent Josh Hurt. The term of the agreement begins on July 1, 2024, and expires on June 30, 2027.
The board recognized Student of the Month Barrett Glass, a 6th-grade student at Metcalfe County Middle School. MCMS cafeteria manager Diane Lessenberry was named Classified Employee of the Month, and MCMS ELA teacher Tammy Tarter was the Certified Employee of the Month.
The board also recognized MCES 5th-grade student Jameah Kirby, the state winner of the 2023-24 AARP/KRTA “Grandparent of the Year” essay contest. Jameah and her great-grandmother, Carolyn Kirby, will be honored at the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association Convention on April 23.
