Medical expert raises awareness of men’s health concerns

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Father’s Day may be over, but men’s health remains an important topic all year long.

On Thursday, News 40 has more from an expert with Norton’s Health about the top concerns in the medical community that can impact men and what can improve men’s health.

Dr. Steven Patton, who practices family medicine with Norton’s Health, says, “I believe the best thing is that prevention is key. We can’t solve anything unless we acknowledge that it is there. a lot of times we try to push things off for too long, afraid of, you know, saying, ‘they’re going to find something.’ But the thing is, we want to find it and find it early and prevent it.”

Health experts share that millions of men face illnesses and diseases like heart disease, diabetes, depression and so much more and unfortunately suffer in silence.

Finding someone you trust to talk to about your overall health can make a massive difference, especially when it comes to curable diseases.

Patton says, “With prostate cancer, the same five year survival rate for prostate cancer is almost 100%. If you catch it ahead of time, instead of waiting.”

Acknowledging where you are when it comes to your health can also make a difference in your life and those around you.

Patton says, “On average, we are living six years less than our female counterparts. And a lot of that is we. We don’t say we don’t have enough time for our own health maintenance. What they say. I’m always working, or I have to be here at these events, but we don’t invest in ourselves enough.”
