Medal of Honor recipient comes to Bowling Green to meet with community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A knife showcase turned into a unique way for people to meet a Medal of Honor recipient.

Sammy Lee Davis was a key soldier in helping the United States during the Vietnam War.

Davis received the Medal of Honor from President Lyndon Johnson in 1968.

This weekend, he dropped in to the Northgate shopping center to promote two of his books.

Davis told News 40 how honored he was to meet people that respect his service, while also giving a message to the community.

“It’s been such a honor to be here and meet all the folks that are coming in… just good hometown people and I love it… What I want to do is encourage you to stand up firmly for what you believe is right in your heart. That’s what’s important. That’s what freedom is all about. Stand up for what you believe is right in your heart,” he says.

The knife showcase was put on by Case and the Northgate Ace Hardware.
