BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Med Center Health has announced it will match contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000, to the recently established Rebecca D. Shadowen Research and Education Fund.

Med Center Health Foundation created the fund to recognize the achievements of Dr. Shadowen during her career as a practicing physician in Southcentral Kentucky and continue growth in the areas of research and education. Shadowen recently died after a battle with COVID-19.

Shadowen, an infectious disease specialist, often remarked “science improves outcomes for patients and saves lives.”

Monies donated in honor and recognition of Dr. Shadowen will be used to fund research projects and clinical trials, to support travel expenses for researchers presenting projects at state and national meetings, and to bring nationally renowned healthcare speakers to educate our local medical community.

“Dr. Rebecca Shadowen will always be remembered as an extraordinary physician, an educator, and a mentor who truly enjoyed teaching residents, medical students, and members of our community, ” said Connie Smith, president and chief executive officer of Med Center Health. “Med Center Health is honored to continue her legacy by matching donations to the fund.  Together, we will ensure that Dr. Shadowen’s passion for research and education continues for generations to come.”
