Med Center Health expert shares steps to practice healthier eating
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Healthy eating seems to be all the talk in our nation and in Congress today.
Nature Medicine analyzed the diets of over 100,000 people in their midlife season. They found that only 10% achieve “healthy aging” by 70 years old.
The term “healthy aging” is referred to as sharp memory, no signs of depression and physical wellbeing.
In addition, researchers discovered that a Mediterranean diet lowers risk for diseases, such as high blood pressure, heart issues and cancer. Experts suggest adding lean meats, fruits, vegetables and natural sugars.
Sarah Widener, director of Health and Wellness of Med Center Health, says choosing alternative eating options can be harder in our generation. She says that “we live in a world that almost everything is at our finger tips.”
Widener suspects people think ordering carry out is “cheaper” and better than to “eat healthy at home.” However, she reveals this is not the case.
Widener adds taking one meal at a time can reduce the stress in one’s health journey. She also encourages a balance lifestyle at an early age, but she believes it is “never too late to get healthier.”
