McCoy named new Greenwood boy’s basketball coach

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – There is a new man in charge of boys basketball at the Swamp.

Will McCoy was named the next Greenwood boys basketball head coach during a ceremony inside the high school’s auditorium this afternoon.

McCoy takes the reigns after serving the past several seasons as an assistant coach for the Barren County Trojans.

McCoy now fills the role left void by Bob Pels, who resigned from the position earlier this month.

The Gators finished 16-12 overall last season, and McCoy is looking to improve upon those numbers in his first season in charge.

“They were right there,” he said. “Good seasons, very good regular season records, just couldn’t quite get over that postseason hump. From day one, that is going to be the goal. That’s going to be the expectations that are set, and nothing less than that. We’re gonna make sure these guys are good people first of all – good character guys, good servants of men. But we’re also, like I mentioned during the presser, we’re gonna battle every single day.”
