Mayor of Morgantown announces grant, plans for police and fire department

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps announced Monday that the area is receiving grant funds for a new project.

Phelps stated in a social media post that Morgantown has been given the Department of Local Governments Community Development Block Grant. The mayor further stated the funds are planned to go toward the city’s first Morgantown Fire Department and Morgantown Police Department.

The post states this is the city’s second back-to-back CDBG grant, a rare occurrence. The first one was used to renovate Morgantown City Hall.

Phelps further stated, “Thank you to the BRADD for your help and unwavering support. And thank you to the Morgantown Fire Department for going door to door in our city and district to do the surveys needed to get this grant. And thank you to Gov. Andy Beshear for your continued support and seeing the value of small towns in Kentucky.”

The mayor stated the City Of Morgantown is investing money and time into building the needed infrastructure to lead them into the upcoming century.
