May is Mental Health Awareness Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Since 1949, May has been used to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health. 1 in every 4 adults struggle with mental health issues or illness.
Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health issues.
LifeSkills, Inc. in Bowling Green offers help through therapy, either in person or through telehealth. Medication, or medication combined with therapy can also be beneficial to some people.
The staff hopes this helps more people open up and get the help that they need.
“We’ve made it an uncomfortable conversation to have. And really it’s more about I care about you, I’m concerned about you, what’s going on, can I help. And you may not be the one to help them, but you can certainly point them in the right direction,” said Director of Community Engagement Melanie Watts.
LifeSkills, Inc. has a 24/7 crisis line that anyone can access by dialing 843-HELP.
