Martin twins sign to play college football at Kentucky State University
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – Wednesday was a special day over at Caverna High School as two Colonel football standouts signed to play the game they love in college.
Twin brothers Tyson and Kenyon Martin have dominated on the high school football field for a few years now, and their hard work and determination has landed them together at Kentucky State University.
The Martin twins have left their impact on Caverna, combining for over 7,000 rushing yards, 124 touchdowns, over 650 tackles, and 9,794 all-purpose yards.
With those numbers, you can only imagine old records were shattered and new ones were made.
Tyson holds the top marks in rushing for a single game, a season and his career. He also is the leader in single season touchdowns, career touchdowns and career all-purpose yards.
Kenyon was a very impressive rusher as well, but the record he set was on the defensive side in career tackles.
They both shared what it means to have achieved that level of success in Horse Cave.
“ [It means] I get to leave my legacy at Caverna and then go to Kentucky State and make another one,” Kenyon said.
“It means that we were the best to come out of Caverna,” Tyson said.
Now the Martin twins move from being some of the greatest to grace Caverna to the capitol of the Bluegrass.
The twins are set to join a Thorobreds squad fresh off a historic season where they made the Division II playoffs for the very first time with a 9-2 record.
Tyson and Kenyon are looking to make an immediate impact when they step on the college campus in the fall, and they are excited to do so wearing the same jersey, something that’s been the case their whole lives.
“ We were always a package deal,” Kenyon said.
“Anywhere else, we both are going. It’s very special to us because we can both be beside each other and be on the field at the same time too,” Tyson said.
