Marshall County School Resource Officer sent inappropriate messages to students, police say

BENTON, Ky. – Kentucky State police is investigating a Marshall County School Resource Officer for harassment of students.

KSP says the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office requested an investigation into allegations made against Marshall County Deputy James Steven Oakley, 47, of Benton.

Deputy Oakley allegedly sent inappropriate messages to juvenile female students at Marshall County High School.

KSP says the facts of the investigation were presented to the Marshall County Grand Jury on Friday, July 11.

The grand jury found probable cause to indict Deputy Oakley on the charge of harassment.

KSP says Deputy Oakley was served a summons charging him with harassment on Monday.

Deputy Oakley served the MCSO for 20 years before retiring in December 2020. Deputy Oakley was rehired as a School Resource officer in 2022.

The investigation is ongoing.
