March is self harm awareness month

BOWLING GREEN, Ky- March is Self Harm Awareness Month.

The National Alliance on Mental Illnesses (NAMI) is partnering with Western Kentucky University to provide assistance and support groups for college students who suffer with mental illnesses.

NAMI, a non-profit organization, also has an adult support group where you can meet with other indivduals who struggle with mental health.

Dr. Jay Gabbard, Professor in Social Work says, “one of the things we do in our group is we educate students about what mental health issues are and what their symptoms look like and what are different treatment options with those issues”.

Bowling Green NAMI has support groups virtually twice a month for adults who struggle with mental illnesses. They have in person group every Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Rebecca Coursey, Interim Chair for BG NAMI says, “If you want to reach out, we will point you in the right direction. Whether you’re a family member or caregiver. We have support groups”.
