Man who wants beer accused of breaking into bar

A Bowling Green man was charged with burglarizing a bar Saturday after he said a homeless man talked him into entering a closed bar where he said he drank some beer.

Bonnay Martell Benford, 52, 136 Amy Drive, told Bowling Green police Saturday that he was hanging out behind a grocery store when he met a homeless man who told him that the window at Olympic Bar and Restaurant was broken out and he could get beer there, according to Benford’s arrest citation.

A burglary alarm at the business alerted police to someone inside. Police responded and found Benford inside the business, according to his citation.

Benford told police he didn’t break out the window but he did enter the business and drink some beer, according to the citation. Police also found a black bag with multiple bottles of alcohol in it outside of the broken window.

Police charged Benford with third-degree burglary and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. His bond was set at $1,000.
