CLARKSON, Ky. – A Big Clifty man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to break into a home and being shot.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call to a shots fired complaint on Millerstown Road on Saturday.

A deputy arrived at the scene and located a man lying down on the porch area across from the home. The man is identified as Elliot Hazelwood, 25 of Big Clifty. Deputies say Hazelwood said he was bitten by a dog and shot by the resident.

The resident says Hazelwood allegedly attempted to break into the home with a knife.

The deputy says a large tree broke the bedroom window and the back door window was removed. The knife allegedly possessed by Hazelwood was located by the back door.

Both the resident and Hazelwood told the deputy only one shot was fired from a pistol during the incident.

The resident told the deputy Hazelwood was not permitted to be at the residence.

The deputy says Hazelwood stated he was staying at the home for five days and invited by the resident.

Hazelwood is charged with second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree burglary and is being held at the Grayson County Detention Center.
