Man shot after pursuit in Hancock County

HAWESVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says it is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hancock County.
KSP says it was requested by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the shooting near Hawesville just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Troopers say they responded to the 100 block of River Street.
According to authorities, a preliminary investigation revealed Lewisport Police Department officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant on 60-year-old Carl P. Newhard of Lewisport.
Newhard drove away from the scene, and a pursuit ensued into Hawesville, authorities say. Troopers say HSCO deputies ended the pursuit using a tire deflation device.
During this time, troopers say Newhard brandished a handgun at law enforcement, and a HSCO deputy fired his agency-issued firearm, striking Newhard.
Newhard sustained non-life threatening injuries, authorities say, before being transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Troopers say he was last listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation into this case remains ongoing.
