Man pleads guilty in 2017 shooting death
A Bowling Green man pleaded guilty Monday in Warren Circuit Court to reckless homicide in the shooting death of Kenneth Davis, 21, of Corbin, Ky.
Peter Gall, 22, was originally charged with second-degree manslaughter. He pleaded guilty to an amended charge for which the Commonwealth recommended a four-year prison sentence.
According to an arrest citation, in September 2017, Bowling Green Police Department responded to a call in the 1600 block of Kenton Street.
Gall was the caller and told officers he accidentally shot someone, according to police records. Gall was upset and told officers he had shot his best friend.
Gall told police he and Davis had been joking around earlier that day and Gall retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from his bedroom to scare Davis, records show.
He said he set the gun down on a sofa and the gun discharged striking Davis in the abdomen. Davis later died at The Medical Center.
“Sometimes people forget the finality when they are dealing with firearms,” Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron said. “This was truly a tragic situation that was really unnecessary. We are pleased that we were able to come to an agreement that would give the family some measure of closure.”
