Fatal Crash

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. – One man is dead after allegedly running a red light and hitting a deputy sheriff’s vehicle in Boyle County.

The Kentucky State Police says it responded Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. to the intersection of Hustonville Road and West Shelby Street in Boyle County.

Authorities say Boyle County Sheriff’s Office deputy Zach King was traveling in a Dodge Durango north on Hustonville Road while trying to turn left onto West Shelby Street.

As the deputy turned through the intersection, authorities say a Hyundai Elantra driven by 27-year-old Michael Mingey of Lancaster was traveling south on Hustonville Road. According to KSP, Mingey “disregarded the traffic control device and struck the Dodge Durango.”

Mingey was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead by the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.

The deputy was transported to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to KSP.

The investigation remains ongoing.

KSP was assisted on scene by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, Danville EMS, Boyle County Fire Department, Danville City Fire Department, Junction City Fire Department and the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.
