Man charged with kidnapping son in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man faces multiple charges after police say he kidnapped his infant son in Bowling Green.
According to a uniform citation by the Bowling Green Police Department, officers responded around 1 a.m. Tuesday for a disturbance where 41-year-old Richard Brian of Bowling Green had taken his 1-year-old son.
It had been confirmed the child was placed under the care of another individual, police say.
Police say a caller had advised Brian had unlawfully entered her home, taken the child and driven away from the scene. The uniform citation states BGPD tried to find Brian and the child at multiple locations due to concerns Brian may be on methamphetamine.
At 4 a.m., police say they received a call about a white male with a baby attempting to steal a vehicle. Police say Brian had fled, and they located him at 141 Center St. inside of a van.
While holding his son close to his body, police say Brian screamed, refused to leave the vehicle and began to make threats.
Police say Brian also brandished a knife and made jabbing motions to his son.
After two hours of refusing to exit the vehicle, officer say negotiation led him to put the knife away and leave the vehicle with his son.
Officers safely took possession of the child.
Brian was taken into custody.
He was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green before being lodged at the Warren County Detention Center on charges of kidnapping of a minor, first-degree wanton endangerment, third-degree terroristic threatening, third-degree criminal mischief, public intoxication – controlled substance (excludes alcohol) and resisting arrest.
