Man charged with impersonating a peace officer in Laurel County
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. – One man is facing charges after allegedly conducting a traffic stop while impersonating an officer in Laurel County.
According to Sheriff John Root with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Saturday, Aug. 8 for a complaint of a male subject driving what appeared to be a police vehicle with decals and a flashing red light.
Authorities say they were notified the vehicle unlawfully conducted a traffic stop.
Deputies say during the unlawful traffic stop, the individual impersonating an officer told a driver that he had been speeding. According to the sheriff’s office, when asked for identification, the individual conducting the traffic stop could not produce any, and the driver left and notified emergency dispatch.
Authorities say a Laurel County deputy located the suspect vehicle parked along Highway 30 as if someone was watching for traffic violators.
According to deputies, after conducting a stop on the suspect vehicle, they confirmed the individual had conducted an unlawful stop on a vehicle along Highway 30.
As a result, 19-year-old Korie Matthew Noble of Highway 1376 was arrested around 10:53 p.m. Saturday.
Noble is charged with impersonating a peace officer, improper emergency/safety lights and failure to produce an insurance card.
Noble was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
According to the Laurel County sheriff, red light packages are restricted to fire departments, rescue squads and ambulance services. Root states that actual police vehicles signal a stop with blue flashing lights in Kentucky, officers have proper identification and if in doubt, drive to a safe location around open businesses before stopping.
