Man charged with forgery involving checks in Glasgow

GLASGOW, Ky. – One man is facing charges in connection to an alleged forgery case in Glasgow.
According to a uniform citation, the Glasgow Police Department was dispatched Tuesday to The Cecilian Bank at 607 South L. Rogers Wells Boulevard for a forgery complaint.
Police say bank employees stated a male subject attempted to cash a forged check at the bank.
Authorities say they were told this was the second time the bank has encountered the male subject, identified as 28-year-old Zachery Reed of Elizabethtown.
According to police, the bank also received a check from Reed on Jan. 16 for $800 that was later deemed invalid after being cashed.
The bank says they were able to determine the checks were stolen out of Elizabethtown, the citation says.
On Tuesday, authorities say Reed had attempted to cash a check for $900.
After leaving the bank, police say Reed entered the passenger side of a car. Police say they were able to get the vehicle’s full license plate and description using a Flock camera.
Police say they later responded to a residence and located the vehicle.
Authorities say a female subject stated she had picked Reed up from the bank and dropped him off at an area business.
Police say they located Reed and took him into custody.
Reed also had several active arrest warrants for separate, unrelated cases, according to police.
Authorities say during a search of Reed’s backpack, they found a checkbook with additional unwritten checks that matched the description of the two forged checks.
Reed was arrested and transported to the Barren County Detention Center. During this time, police say Reed claimed the checks belonged to the female subject and that he had been told to write them.
Reed faces charges of first-degree forgery, first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, theft by deception – include cold checks $500 < $1,000, theft by deception – include cold checks $500 < $1,000 (attempt) and receiving stolen property.
