Man charged with fleeing police in Cave City

CAVE CITY, Ky. – One man is facing multiple charges after a reported pursuit in Cave City.

According to a uniform citation, the Cave City Police Department observed a vehicle speeding at 83 miles her hour in a 55 mph zone on Highway 90 on Wednesday.

Police say they attempted to catch up to the vehicle and turned on the cruiser’s lights and sirens. Authorities say the driver traveled into oncoming traffic and passed multiple vehicles.

Police say the vehicle eventually reached over 120 mph on Happy Valley Road.

The vehicle then turned onto Louisville Road, where police say construction work had caused traffic. Authorities say they conducted a traffic stop and brought the male subject out at gunpoint due to him not following commands.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old William Beard of Glasgow, was arrested.

Police say Beard stated he fled because his license was suspended, and he didn’t want to go to jail. Officers say they explained to Beard that he put “multiple people in danger for a misdemeanor charge that turned into a felony charge.”

Beard is charged with speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit, reckless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, possession of marijuana and first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle).

Beard remains at the Barren County Detention Center.
