Man charged with fleeing police in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is behind bars following a reported vehicle pursuit earlier this month in Bowling Green.
According to a uniform citation, police arrested 26-year-old Nawatha Murrell Jr. in connection with the incident that occurred on April 12. Jail records state Murrell Jr. was arrested Tuesday, April 22.
Police say an officer observed a vehicle begin to speed up on West 15th Avenue before it later failed to use a turn signal on April 12.
Authorities say they caught up to the vehicle near the Muse apartments and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
According to police, the vehicle fled at a high speed, striking the passenger side of another vehicle during the pursuit. Bowling Green police say they eventually disengaged and did not continue the pursuit due to the reckless way the driver was traveling.
BGPD says it requested the Kentucky State Police to make contact at the registered owner’s address, which later led authorities to make contact with Murrell Jr. and the vehicle at another location.
Police say on doorbell camera footage, they observed Murrell Jr. run in a frantic manner to an apartment before leaving again.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle damaged in the pursuit did not report injuries, however, they reported an estimate of $2,000 in damage.
Murrell Jr. remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
He faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance and failure to or improper signal.
