BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man is facing several charges after police say he fled law enforcement early Thursday.

According to a uniform citation, a Bowling Green Police Department officer was dispatched around 2:18 a.m. to 1201 Morgantown Road for a report of two individuals looking into vehicles and trying to break into a camper.

Police say one of the suspects was riding a bicycle.

Upon arrival, police say the suspect traveled faster on the bike before jumping over a barbed wire fence nearby.

The citation states the officer exited his vehicle and yelled for the suspect to stop.

The suspect continued running, police say, and the officer crossed Veterans Memorial Lane on foot in pursuit of the suspect. Police say the suspect then jumped over a wooden fence.

When police located the suspect, they say he was lying on his back in a field near the 1400 block of Veterans Memorial Lane.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Zebulon Baucum, 34, appeared to attempt to get up.

The uniform citation says after deploying a taser was not effective, the officer got the suspect to the ground after Baucum attempted to flee.

Additional officers arrived as Baucum continued to resist arrest, police say.

The citation says Baucum received evaluation by EMS before he again tried to flee. Police say one officer injured his shoulder while chasing Baucum, who was handcuffed.

Baucum was arrested and transported to the Warren County Detention Center.

He is charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, second-degree escape, resisting arrest and public intoxication – controlled substance (excludes alcohol).
