Man charged following high-speed pursuit in Warren County
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is facing multiple charges in connection with a vehicle pursuit in Bowling Green.
According to a uniform citation, just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night, the Kentucky State Police received a call regarding a vehicle hitting a tractor-trailer and failing to stop.
Authorities say the incident reportedly occurred on Interstate 65 northbound around the 11-mile marker.
Troopers say the caller stated the vehicle was speeding at 90 miles per hour and swerving all over the road with flashers on.
Troopers responded to the area and say they observed the vehicle pass them at 101 mph in a 70 mph zone with its flashers still activated.
According to authorities, the responding trooper activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens, but the other vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed.
Authorities say the vehicle eventually came to a stop on Cemetery Road near Castle Heights Road.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Michael Steele of Smiths Grove, was taken into custody without further incident.
Steele was transported The Medical Center at Bowling Green before later being taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.
Steele is charged with speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), leaving the scene of an accident- failure to render aid or assistance, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, first offense, reckless driving, menacing, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, first offense, operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, improper passing and disregarding a traffic control device – stop sign.
