Man charged after caller claims to be Warren County sheriff
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is accused of impersonating Warren County sheriff Brett Hightower during a recent incident.
According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police was contacted just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday in reference to an individual receiving a voicemail from a male subject stating he was Hightower with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say they spoke with the complainant, who shared the phone number provided with the voicemail.
After contacting the phone number and speaking with the individual, troopers say they confirmed the voice matched the one in the voicemail that “clearly stated he was sheriff Hightower with the WCSO.”
Authorities say they located the caller, identified as 51-year-old Michael Hester of Bowling Green.
According to the citation, Hester admitted to to leaving a voicemail claiming to be the sheriff but stated it was “only a joke.”
Hester then stated he trying to contact the subject “in reference to work.”
Hester was arrested and charged with impersonating a peace officer.
He remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
