Man arrested in connection to illegal drug drop-off at Barren County jail

METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. – A Metcalfe County man is facing several charges after a search connected to illegal drugs entering the Barren County Detention Center.
The Barren River Drug Task Force says it conducted a search Monday, along with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police, at a residence on Judd Road in Metcalfe County.
Officials say the search stemmed from an investigation that began Aug. 4, when the Barren County jailer contacted the drug task force regarding a person placing illegal drugs on jail property for an inmate to pick up.
The drug task force says it reviewed video from the Barren County Detention Center, as well as communications between the inmate and suspect.
The investigation led to a search warrant for the residence earlier this week, where officials say they found about 87.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, loaded syringes, scales, packaging equipment, several firearms and a pipe bomb.
Officials say they turned over the explosive device to the ATF and KSP explosive technicians for destruction.
Cory Scott Roach, 34, of Edmonton was arrested.
He faces charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense greater than or equal to 2 grams, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess and tampering with evidence.
According to officials, Roach admitted to trafficking in illegal drugs and to flushing methamphetamine when law enforcement arrived.
Roach was taken to the Barren County Detention Center.
Additional arrests and charges are pending.
