BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man is behind bars after police say he admitted to trying to sexually assault a child in Bowling Green on Tuesday.

The Bowling Green Police Department says it responded to a report of a sexual assault involving a child at the 1200 block of North Lee Drive.

Police say they learned through an investigation that the parents had placed their children in a car and briefly returned to their apartment to get additional items.

Upon returning, police say they found Decision Bitingingwa, 19, of Bowling Green with his pants down, reaching into the back seat.

Police say the father quickly removed Bitingingwa from the car and called police.

The three-year-old child’s pants were down, and her diaper had been removed, police say.

BGPD says its detectives interviewed Bitingingwa, who confessed to trying to sexually assault the child. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree attempted rape.

The Department of Community Based Services is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
