Man arrested, charged with assaulting, disarming a Warren County Sheriff’s deputy

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man has been arrested on charges of third-degree assault of a police officer after a reported incident at an apartment complex in Warren County.

According to his citation, Benjamin Highfield was at an apartment on Upper Stone Avenue when another man saw Highfield break a beer bottle on his back deck.

His citation also states the man says he was then threatened by Highfield with a knife.

According to his citation, Highfield was visibly intoxicated, and told the deputy he had had more to drink “than anyone should.”

On the way to the hospital, Highfield began banging his handcuffs against the window and the arresting officer thought the window might break, according to his citation.

The officer requested backup and Highfields hands were placed behind his back and ankle restraints were applied, according to his citation.

In the hospital room, Highfield grabbed the deputy’s protective vest and nearly removed the entire vest, according to the citation.

The citation states in doing so, he nearly removed the deputies taser, radio, baton and OC spray.

During the struggle, the citation says the deputy slammed his knee on the ground and needed an x-ray.

According to Hightower, the deputy is doing just fine now.

Highfield was charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, disarming a peace officer and first-degree wanton endangerment.
