HOPKISNVILLE, Ky. (WKDZ Radio) – One man is behind bars after authorities say he fled law enforcement in a stolen vehicle in Hopkinsville Friday morning.

According to WKDZ Radio, Hopkinsville police say they were notified of a stolen vehicle in Oak Grove and located that vehicle in Hopkinsville, where they tried to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Kaves Payton.

WKDZ reports Payton fled down Fort Campbell Boulevard before spike strips were deployed near Interstate 24, however, the driver was still able to enter the interstate.

Police say the pursuit ended on I-24 before exit 89 due to a “precision immobilization technique,” according to WKDZ.

Payton was apprehended with a law enforcement K-9.

Payton was transported by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment before being taken to jail.

He faces charges of reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, driving on a DUI-suspended license, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, possession of fentanyl, tampering with physical evidence and fugitive from another state.
