Man arrested after homemade explosives located in Laurel County

LONDON, Ky. – One man has been arrested after the discovery of homemade explosives in Laurel County.
According to a release by the Kentucky State Police, troopers requested assistance from its hazardous devices unit after a trooper encountered a potential explosive situation on Kentucky 490.
Troopers say an item was burning in the road when the trooper was approached by a subject, later identified as 36-year-old William Jones.
Authorities say Jones told the trooper that the burning material belonged to him and contained an explosive mixture of substances, which he used to make fireworks.
Troopers say Jones further stated explosive materials and precursors were at his home.
During a voluntary search of his property, authorities say they found the materials. Due to the danger of the materials, KSP says they seized and disposed of them.
Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
He remains at the Laurel County Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
