Man arrested after high-speed chase from Logan County to Bowling Green

John Long

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – A man is in custody after deputies say he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase from Logan County into Bowling Green early Sunday in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen.

According to Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton, the pursuit began around 1:17 a.m. Jan. 18 when a deputy conducting speed enforcement on U.S. 68 East near Ky. 103 clocked a vehicle traveling 80 mph in a 65 mph zone. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield and fled, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph and driving in a reckless manner that endangered the public.

With assistance from Kentucky State Police, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Bowling Green Police Department, spike strips were deployed, disabling the vehicle. Authorities said the driver was taken into custody without incident at a Shell station on Russellville Road.

The driver was identified as John Long. Sheriff’s officials said it was initially determined the vehicle had been stolen from Christian County. The vehicle was later confirmed to have been stolen out of Nashville, Tennessee, and was recovered with minimal damage.

Authorities said Long was determined to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was transported for medical evaluation. It was also later discovered that he has a suspended Indiana driver’s license.

The case remains under investigation, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
