Man arrested after allegedly trespassing, causing delay of air evac services

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is behind bars after allegedly causing a delay for an air evac response to a local emergency.

According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded Thursday to 899 U.S. 31-W Bypass regarding a subject in the parking lot that pushed the caller.

Upon arrival, officers say they made contact with a male, later identified as 45-year-old Jerry Stivers.

Authorities say Stivers appeared to be confused and placed his hand in his pocket multiple times. The second time, authorities Stivers would not comply to remove his hand from his pocket.

Due to the potential that Stivers could have been reaching for a weapon, police say Stivers was detained, leading to a physical struggle.

Stivers was eventually placed into custody.

Officers say there was also a call pending dispatch to officers regarding a suspicious incident at the air evac center, regarding a male that fit the description of Stivers placing a wooden board inside of a helicopter.

Authorities say Stivers admitted to placing wood into the helicopter.

Officers say an air evac team member stated they had found the piece of wood before an evacuation run to provide emergency services to a patient.

Authorities say surveillance footage showed a male subject jump over the fence at the landing zone, which has a sign stating “restricted area do not enter.”

The video additionally showed the subject placing the piece of wood into the helicopter, authorities say.

Authorities say the air evac team member stated that, because the wood was inside of the helicopter, the team was not able to take off for safety reasons.

This resulted in another helicopter that was further away being sent to Logan County, which prolonged the time it took for the patient to receive transport for treatment that was required.

Stivers was transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.

He is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, second-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree assault of a police officer or probation officer, resisting arrest, menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication in a public place, third or greater offense in 12 months.
