Man allegedly under the influence of Fireball steals, crashes school bus

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – A London, Kentucky man is facing several charges after police say he admitted to crashing a stolen school bus while under the influence.

The London Police Department says officers received a report that a school bus had crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Middleground Way and Sublimity School Road Tuesday night.

They say an eyewitness at the scene told officers that a man dressed in all black had crawled out of the bus and was running down Middleground Way toward South Laurel Road.

Officers later found a man matching that description running on South Laurel Road.

They say the man, identified as John Driscoll, 26, smelled of alcohol.

They say Driscoll admitted to drinking Fireball Whiskey and stealing the school bus from South Laurel High School.

Driscoll was arrested and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, reckless driving, careless driving, illegal use of a school bus, theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto between $10,000 and $1,000,000, first-degree criminal mischief, failure to wear seat belts, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render assistance and fugitive.
