Man allegedly goes on stolen vehicle spree in Logan County, later arrested in Muhlenberg County

LOGAN COUNTY – The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a spree of vehicle thefts.

Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton says his office responded to a stolen vehicle report on Bucksville Road in Auburn on Thursday morning. The complainant said his Ford F-150 was stolen from his residence.

Stratton says a short time later, deputies received a report of a stolen Chevrolet Camaro from a home on Duncan Ridge Road in Lewisburg.

While deputies responded to the second stolen vehicle complaint, a third call was received stating that a Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from a home on Lewisburg Road.

Stratton says that during the investigation of the third stolen vehicle, a 911 report of an attempted vehicle theft at another home on Lewisburg Road.

The complainant told law enforcement that the suspect fled the scene when confronted.

Stratton says a deputy observed a stolen vehicle speeding passed the residence where it was allegedly stolen. The deputy was unable to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and a BOLO was issued to surrounding agencies.

Strattons says Kentucky State Police located the stolen vehicle at Clay Jones Trucking in Muhlenberg County at 2:51 pm.

KSP located the suspect, Arlexis Kawai, 31, attempting to steal another vehicle from the business.

Troopers arrested Kawai without incident.

Stratton says the investigation goes on to show that Kawai allegedly stole a Scotty’s Contracting Truck in Warren County. The truck was later abandoned before the first theft of the Ford F-150 in Auburn.

Kawai was lodged at the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.

He is charged with three counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Theft of a Firearm, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), and Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended License in Logan County.

Stratton says all four vehicles were recovered and returned to the owners.
