Man airlifted to hospital after being assaulted in Bowling Green; arrest made
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A man is behind bars, while another man is in the hospital after police say an assault occurred Wednesday morning in Bowling Green.
According to Bowling Green police, the incident happened in the 500 block of Belmont Avenue around 6 a.m.
Witnesses told police, Marquece Bell, 23, of Bowling Green, knocked out Derrick Thomas Boyd and then continued punching Boyd while he was on the ground.
According to an arrest citation, Boyd was unconscious when he was taken to the Medical Center at Bowling Green. The citation states that during the assault, Boyd suffered facial fractures and a broken orbital bone. Boyd was later taken by helicopter to a trauma center in Nashville, Tenn. for additional treatment.
Police arrested Bell and charged him with second-degree assault. The arrest citation states that Bell told police he was trying to defend himself during the altercation.
Bell is lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail and is being held on a $6,000 bond.
