Man accused of stealing ATV, leading police on slow speed chase

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Warren County Sheriff’s Office was called to Slim Island Road at 9:16 p.m. Thursday about a suspicious man.

When deputies arrived, the man was gone but about 45 minutes later the sheriff’s office received a call about a man with an identical description who stole an ATV, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies saw the ATV heading north on Ky. 185. The ATV driver did not stop and led deputies on a slow-speed pursuit.

The driver was later identified as Danny Billingsley, 35, of Summer Shade. Billingsley is accused of driving through several yards and fences during the pursuit until crashing the ATV and taking off running, according to the release.

The pursuit speeds got up to 41 mph but at most times ranged from 10 to 15 miles per hour, according to Billingsley’s arrest citation.

A Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy wrote that Billingsley looked back at him while riding and making obscene hand gestures at the deputy, according to the citation.

Billingsley is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but less than $10,000, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest, first-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal mischief, operating an off-road vehicle on private or public land without consent.

He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. He was being held Friday afternoon without bond.
