Man accused of shooting woman near infant son arrested in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The man accused of shooting a woman near her infant son on Sunday morning in Bowling Green has been arrested.
Michael Jerome Simmons, 22, is charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree assault in the shooting incident. At the time of his arrest, he was additionally charged with carrying concealed weapons, receiving stolen property-firearm and two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Police found Simmons Wednesday on Clay Street after receiving information that he was at Hummingbird Apartments, according to his arrest citation. During a search incident to arrest, police found two 9 mm handguns tucked into Simmons’ waistband. One of the handguns had been reported stolen, according to his citation.
Simmons is accused of shooting Jessica Freeman, 20, in an apartment in the 2900 block of North Mill Avenue.
Police found Freeman Sunday on the floor next to her bed. Her four-month-old son sat in a cradle chair near her. Dispatchers heard the baby crying when Freeman first called to report being shot, according to Simmons’ arrest warrant.
The infant was not injured and Freeman was taken to a trauma center in Nashville.
Simmons was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.
