Man accused of assault on kitchen worker at Fern Terrace

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A resident at Fern Terrace Lodge was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault after a kitchen worker told Bowling Green police the man assaulted her.

The woman said she was preparing dinner in the kitchen when Derrick West, 36, came up to her from behind and struck her on the head, according to his arrest citation.

West told police he was upset because he was not receiving sexual acts at the facility, and he also said he was hearing voices that told him to leave Fern Terrace, according to his arrest citation.

He said he struck the woman six or seven times with his hand before using a coffee container to hit her, according to the citation.

The woman’s head was bleeding, and she was taken to an area hospital for treatment. West was charged with second-degree assault and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. His bond is set at $2,500.
