Mammoth Cave soundscapes offer audio tour of national park
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky.- The sound of the environment is good for your mental health, and being in that environment can be good for your physical health.
Soundscapes, an uncommon staple but a very calming and peaceful natural resource that can often go overlooked, are located in Mammoth Cave National Park.
Molly Schroer, the PIO for Mammoth Cave National Park, tells us more.
She says, “This is a national priority for the National Park Service. Soundscapes, dark skies and something that we may not normally think about right away as being part of the environment. But when you get out into the woods and you’re hiking, or you’re walking on one of our trails, or even inside the cave itself, one of the things you notice is the sounds, and it’s the birds and it’s the insects, it’s the dripping water and all part of that experience of being in the natural world. ”
Along with helping people, the sounds that nature creates can be helpful to many animals. Mammoth Cave is doing its part to ensure that the soundscapes are maintained.
“It is an important natural resource for us as humans but also for the animals that live in the park. So it’s one of the things that we do try to protect and keep a natural soundscape within Mammoth Cave National Park,” Shroer says.
