Mammoth Cave releases Black History Month programs

Bowling Green, KY.- Black History Month is right around the corner, and Mammoth Cave National Park is preparing for activities to spotlight the historic achievements made by African Americans.

The park will present a series of ranger-led talks, guided walks, and off-site presentations, all of which highlight the contributions African Americans have made to the tourism, exploration, and development of Mammoth Cave.

Public Information Officer for Mammoth Cave National Park, Molly Schroer, says “The history of African Americans at Mammoth Cave dates back well over 200 years when the first early cave explorers came to the park. They were African American slave guides and they began tourism here, some of the first ones to begin that touring tradition that we still continue to do today.”
